Ryan O’Laughlin is a professional artist and strengths based therapist based out of Philadelphia, PA. Their practice consists of performance, painting and drawing, installation, and woodwork. Themes include grief and loss coupled with hope and revitalization through dreams.
Ryan studied clinical social work through Temple University and holds a Masters in social work and has been practicing in the field for 15 years. Through this time, Ryan participated as a performance artist in Philadelphia while also making portraits during these times. In 2021, they studied at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art to get a post baccalaureate certificate in fine art. These studies introduced more elements to Ryan’s art including wood work, study under professional artists, and networking in the Philadelphia Art community. Ryan's first professional art exhibit, “Dream Boat” was at Side Street art gallery to showcase their work that was inspired by their practice at PAFA as well as the aftermath of the 2020 political and cultural unrest. Ryan is currently practicing clinical social work while also studying impressionism inspired artists to showcase their next body of work.
